Aurea Golden  (Green with extended nodes, hardy and fast-running, common in California)
Phyllostachys aurea

The most commonly-cultivated bamboo in North America is golden bamboo. It is easily identified by one of several short internodes at the base of some of its canes. It is hardy and drought-tolerant and a very good bamboo for use as a potted plant. It is extremely aggressive - has given bamboo a bad name - and is not recommended without containment. In full sun it will yellow but stays green in partial shade or indoors.
