Robert Young canes turn sulphur-green to a bright banana-yellow with bright green stripes of variable width displayed on many internodes. A truly exotic, tropical-looking timber bamboo which is very hardy. It likes clay-type soils and is good as an isolated clump or grove. Very slow-spreading in northern California so dense clumps are formed. Basic form is Viridis which is all green and faster spreading.
